INCUBE / hideaway for bérénice

I N C U B E

incube is a design project that i created with my friend bára ou for the arc design sensoriel in ÉSAD / école supérior d'art et design ( orléans, france ) in winter semester 2014/2015.

it is a cubic system, that provides calming and soothing place for relaxation.
in this project we were supposed to work with three random words : sport centre, silence and frequency; create a real-life story and a situation, where our design project will help someone to feel better.

we chose to work with spas and pools, however this construction can be built anywhere, in sport centers, gardens or for example public parcs.

we wanted to create a place, where it would be easy to relax after swimming, without loosing
the connection with water and an “underwater” silent intimacy.

some walls of these cubes are created by streams of falling water which makes calming sounds.
we also incorporated plants into our design, to cover the whole structure into “natural silence.”
materials used are glass, metal and water. this system could be built in various versions, from small simple cubes, into a bigger, more complicated public constructions.

this was exciting for me and my friend bára ou cause non of us has ever worked on a video project.. it's not perfect, but it describes the project in a way that it was supposed to

our relaxation system is a cubic-shaped construction consisting of multiple smaller " rooms / cubes / platforms."

used materials are metal, glass, wood and water. another very important element of this design are plants.
the system works with falling water, which creates separation walls between the rooms.

water is a very important feature in our design, because not only it creates an imaginary wall and a feeling of privacy, the slowly falling water streams produce very calming and peaceful sounds.

we were looking for some relaxation solution in which we would incorporate silence and falling water felt as the closest resemblance.

plants are another very important element of this design.
they, of course, decorate the relaxation place but also help to add a feeling of intimacy.the personalise this otherwise clean, futuristic and minimalistic construction.

we wanted to be clean modern and minimal, but not cold future - sci-fi and impersonal. plants help to create more welcoming environment, they are beautiful to look at and along with the beautiful clear glass, cubic construction and falling water, they create sensation of a modern botanical garden.

used plants are hydrophytes, that means they grow only in water or very moist soi.

the water is falling from its cage on each top of the cubic room. eighter on one, or two, or three sides or the cubic room. it falls down on the platform where there is a little manger to collect it and put back to the circle.
for security reasons there would also be a glass, dividing a room from other environment,

but this depends on the complexness and size of our structure / construction. it can be built only in small size, consisting of for example two or three units and suit for personal purposes / or bigger complex for public places such as swimming pools, parcs, sport centers, spa etc etc.

in our cubic platform, you can hang out and chill. take a rest, sit or lay down on the benches and loungers, after sport.

you can feel stress-less and peaceful, surrounded by nothing but a calming sounds of falling water and beautiful flowers, that shade your view from the sun.

the ceiling of every cube is fully, or semi-transparent so there is enough sunlight coming inside the room, which is bright.

wind passing through gives a feeling or freshness and very important is also height in which every platform is placed - it gives the feeling of a certain unavailability like when children build a secret hideaway place in the trees.
